I’m a college junior who’d like to get into sports casting. How do you get into the business?
The answer seems to change every 3 to 5 years. I guess the one constant through all of the madness is that you need to get out there.
Sure you need to know your stuff, but if only your mother knows how good you are that generally won’t translate into employment. I’m talking about internships. Never be too proud to “work for food” if it gets you in the door. The relationships that you make will make up for the loss of paycheck at some point. Not only will you get practical experience, but it gives you an opportunity to tell people what you want to do when you grow up. I have yet to meet an employer who isn’t trying to save $$$. It seems there is always someone ready to work for less $$$. Be that someone! The idea is to learn the ropes … maybe make a tape … and get your name out there.
